In dit project onderzoek ik hoe de interne app van de Efteling, de Plein-app, gebruiksvriendelijker kan worden gemaakt voor parkmedewerkers. Deze app wordt gebruikt om informatie te delen, zoals roosters, nieuws en documenten. Uit gesprekken met medewerkers blijkt dat het soms lastig is om snel de juiste informatie te vinden, en dat de app onoverzichtelijk aanvoelt.

Om dit probleem beter te begrijpen, heb ik verschillende soorten onderzoek gedaan. Ik sprak met medewerkers over hun ervaringen, keek mee op de werkvloer en verdiepte me in hoe digitale informatie het beste kan worden aangeboden. Ook heb ik onderzocht hoe de huidige app is opgebouwd en waar de knelpunten zitten.

Op basis van die inzichten ben ik gaan nadenken over mogelijke verbeteringen. Ik maakte een nieuwe indeling van de app, waarbij informatie logischer is gegroepeerd en makkelijker terug te vinden is. Deze opzet heb ik vervolgens verwerkt in een nieuw ontwerp van de app, dat ik ben gaan testen bij medewerkers.

Het doel van dit project is om tot een verbeterde versie van de Plein-app te ontwerpen om te laten zien hoe het eruit zou kunnen zien. Een app die duidelijker, overzichtelijker en makkelijker in gebruik is, zodat medewerkers sneller vinden wat ze nodig hebben.

Tijdens mijn stage bij Supplydrive heb ik onderzocht waar hun processen vastliepen en waar verbetering mogelijk was. Samen met de betrokken medewerkers heb ik gezocht naar een slimme oplossing. Al snel werd duidelijk: een dashboard dat de juiste informatie in één oogopslag laat zien, kon het verschil maken.
Ik ontwikkelde software die automatisch data verzamelt uit vijf verschillende systemen en dit overzichtelijk weergeeft in het dashboard. Zodra het eerste prototype klaar was, hebben we het dashboard zichtbaar op een scherm geplaatst. Hierdoor kregen we direct waardevolle feedback, waarmee we het snel konden verbeteren.
Het dashboard bewijst sindsdien dagelijks zijn waarde. Problemen worden sneller zichtbaar, en medewerkers worden actief geholpen om hun werk bij te houden. Wat begon als een idee, is nu een onmisbaar hulpmiddel voor meer grip en continu verbeteren.

Het klimaat in kantoorruimtes kunnen soms alles behalve fijn zijn. Of het is te warm, of het is te koud. Hierdaar gaat de productiviteit en motivatie van werknemers achteruit. Temperatuur is niet de enige factor die een verminderde efficientie oplevert. Ook factoren zoals: luchtvochtigheid, de hoeveelheid CO2 in de lucht en licht spelen een rol.

Het is belangrijk om de verschillende factoren in de gaten te houden en hier op in te spelen wanneer nodig. Alleen dan zal de algemene productiviteit van werknemers omhoog gaan met alle positieve gevolgen van dien. de ARI (Alten Room Improver) is een apparaat dat deze verschillende factoren regelmatig meet. Ook kan het apparaat negatieve waarden tegengaan door gepaste actie te ondernemen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het wegnemen van CO2 uit de lucht of het toevoegen van extra water (in gas vorm) wanneer de luchtochtigheid te laag blijkt te zijn.

During my graduation internship at GAC Business Solutions, I investigated whether custom-built machine learning models could enhance sales and inventory forecasting compared to the standard forecasting functionality available in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

I developed several forecasting models in Python, including ARIMA, SARIMA, Prophet, and XGBoost, and also created an ensemble model to combine the strengths of these individual models. Their performance was assessed using accuracy metrics such as MAPE.

In addition to the technical analysis, I compared the custom machine learning approach to the built-in Business Central solution across key factors such as usability, flexibility, integration complexity, and cost. To conclude, I designed a practical implementation plan for GAC, detailing how a custom forecasting API could be deployed using Azure App Services and integrated into Business Central as a new extension

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage heb ik ThreatHub ontwikkeld, een centraal platform voor het verzamelen, analyseren en prioriteren van kwetsbaarheden. Het concept is ontstaan vanuit de behoefte om kwetsbaarheidsdata van verschillende bronnen – zoals Microsoft Defender for Cloud en Tenable Nessus – samen te brengen in één overzicht. ThreatHub biedt systeembeheerders en security specialisten de mogelijkheid om kwetsbaarheden te filteren op basis van impact, urgentie en NIS2-compliance.

Een belangrijk onderdeel van het project was de ontwikkeling van een modulaire monoliet in .NET met Blazor Server als front-endtechnologie. AI-integratie is toegepast om kwetsbaarheden te groeperen en automatisch te voorzien van prioriteringsadvies.

ThreatHub wordt momenteel ingezet binnen een PoC-fase, waarbij het platform wordt gevalideerd op basis van echte scanresultaten. Het systeem biedt inzicht en helpt de organisatie bij het efficiënt beheren van haar IT-risico’s.

Mijn afstudeerstage heb ik gelopen bij Info Support in Veenendaal. Mijn opdracht was om te onderzoeken wat het Microsoft Radius Application Platform was, hoe het geïmplementeerd zou kunnen worden in kleine CSP's zoals Info Support en hoe het zich zou verhouden tegenover ECOFED.

Hierin heb ik eerst onderzocht wat alle mogelijke plekken binnen Info Support zouden kunnen zijn om Radius te implementeren. Hiernaast heb ik ook onderzoek gedaan naar wat het ECOFED project inhield. Vervolgens heb ik geëvalueerd of Radius ook echt geïmplementeerd zou kunnen worden binnen Info Support en er een Proof of Concept voor gebouwd.

Als eindproduct heb ik een onderzoek document naar Radius, Proof of Concept van een Info Support voorbeeld applicatie en een advies over het potentiële gebruik van Radius.

SpendLab is a FinTech company that provides a service for detecting administrative errors in its clients’ financial records. These errors include double payments, outstanding balances, and incorrectly calculated VAT that must be reconciled. SpendLab recovers these amounts on behalf of its clients by contacting the vendors responsible for the discrepancies and reclaiming the funds owed.

Accurate contact information is essential to this recovery process. However, SpendLab often receives vendor data from clients that is outdated, inaccurate, or incomplete. These missing or incorrect details create obstacles when reaching out to vendors to recover funds. Currently, SpendLab manually enriches this contact information, a time-consuming task that slows down the recovery process.

This research project focused on developing a data-driven solution to validate and consolidate vendor contact information. The solution leverages not only the contact details provided by individual clients but also those from matching vendors across multiple clients. By doing so, SpendLab can significantly accelerate the recovery process and more efficiently reclaim funds owed to its clients.

Spellborne is a roguelite game that can be hosted on the Gamebus platform.
Gamebus is a mobile health app, reminding people to do healthy challenges in order to improve their lifestyle. The game Spellborne is made to be hosted on the platform. The game contains in-app purchases that, instead of money, uses a points system which is present in Gamebus as gamification. This is to give the users of Gamebus an incentive to get more points by doing these healthy challenges for in-game benefits.
To increase this incentive the game makes use of dark patterns - psychological tricks usually used to make people buy things in free-to-play games; think of buying lives/powerups in Candy Crush, or having to invite friends for rewards. For example, in the game, you can obtain a currency to make your character stronger by playing, but this feels slow. Instead, the player can do healthy tasks to speed up this process.

Wat gebeurt er als je een bestaand spel opnieuw bekijkt met een theoretische bril? In dit project wordt onderzocht of bekende game design theorieën zoals MDA, Octalysis en het Bartle framework echt invloed hebben op hoe betrokken spelers zich voelen. Fantaween, een kleurrijk overlevingsspel dat ooit gemaakt werd als marketinggame voor McDonald’s, is hierbij het testmateriaal. Door niet alleen naar de wensen van het merk te kijken, maar ook naar wat verschillende soorten spelers motiveert, zijn er gerichte aanpassingen gedaan om keuzes betekenisvoller te maken en meer afwisseling te bieden. Het doel is niet om het spel te verbeteren om het verbeteren, maar om te meten of dit soort aanpassingen ook echt leiden tot langere speelsessies. Zo wordt duidelijk of theorieën uit de gamewereld ook praktisch bruikbaar zijn voor de context waarin Livewall opereert; dat van marketingspelletjes.

The current build process can take approximately 11 hours to fully complete, which significantly impacts development, testing, and deployment cycles. This assignment aims to provide deeper insights into the build system and provide developers with information on which parts of the codebase to focus on optimizing.

The primary goal of this project has been the development of tools and dashboards that aid in analyzing and visualizing various aspects of the build process. The tools aim to supply developers with more detailed and easily accessible information than what is currently available. The complex dependency chain for building negatively impacts build times, thus gathering information about these dependencies, isolated from the overall build process, provides valuable insights into how to optimize them.

The goal of the research was to gain understanding of the current process at CAL, and see what problems they are currently experiencing. Based on this research, a front-end prototype was built with the goal of simulating the desired process of component preparation for CAL.

This project was also a good opportunity to research and try out new techniques, some examples are; building a desktop application using web techniques and integrating with handheld scanner devices by using named pipes. This project was also my first experience with functional programming as the front-end was built using the PureScript programming language.

Voor mijn project heb ik een muziekvisualisatie-systeem ontwikkeld dat muziek omzet in een lichtshow met LED’s. Het systeem analyseert audiosignalen in real-time en laat LED’s oplichten op basis van de beat, bas, midden- en hoge frequenties. Dit zorgt voor een visuele weergave van muziek. Het doel was om zo een wearable te kunnen creëren dat gedragen kan worden naar concerten en festivals om de beleving van bezoekers te vergroten. Wanneer meerdere van deze wearables gedragen worden bij een festival of concert zal dit een collectieve lichtshow genereren op basis van de live muziek. Ik heb hiervoor een POC gemaakt dat het proces laat zien om een visuele weergave van muziek te krijgen.

VRinSCHOOL is a virtual reality platform designed to help high school and vocational students learn practical skills through immersive modules, ranging from fire safety to bricklaying and anatomy. While powerful in concept, VR environments introduce unique usability challenges, especially when used independently by younger students in a classroom setting.

During this graduation project, I conducted usability research across five of VRinSCHOOL’s learning modules. By observing students during VR lessons, I identified common issues such as unclear interactions, object handling bugs, and a lack of feedback. Based on this analysis, I proposed and implemented scalable technical solutions, like a modular object respawn system to prevent softlocks, a global haptic feedback manager for interaction clarity, and improved onboarding systems that no longer rely on a separate tutorial level.

The goal was not just to fix bugs or redesign a single module, but to improve the platform's systems so future modules are easier to build, more consistent, and more user-friendly. With these changes, the platform can better support classroom autonomy, reducing the need for constant teacher assistance and creating a smoother learning experience for students.

Software Now or Never Sports Sportschool Manager

Tijdens mijn afstudeerperiode heb ik gewerkt aan het ontwikkelen van een maatwerkapplicatie voor een kleinschalige sportschool genaamd Now or Never Sports. Deze sportschool telt momenteel zo’n 200 leden, maar verwacht de komende tijd door te groeien naar ongeveer 300. Op dit moment wordt de administratie grotendeels handmatig bijgehouden, wat bij een toenemend ledenaantal te veel tijd en moeite gaat kosten.

Het doel van het project was om een gebruiksvriendelijke en toekomstbestendige applicatie te ontwikkelen die de administratieprocessen automatiseert en de sportschool ondersteunt in haar groei. Denk hierbij aan het beheren van rittenkaarten, abonnementen, trainingen en testresultaten.

De grootste uitdaging lag in het vinden van een goede balans tussen het beperken van de kosten en het creëren van een schaalbare architectuur. De applicatie moest flexibel genoeg zijn om in de toekomst eenvoudig nieuwe functionaliteiten toe te voegen, zonder direct over te stappen op dure cloudoplossingen of complexe infrastructuren. Deze vraag heb ik ook beantwoordt in mijn onderzoek.

Het doel van mijn stage is om een modulaire communicatie module te maken. Deze communicatie module beschikt over een afstandsbediening en een centrale hoofdunit. Er wordt niet doorgebouwd op een bestaand systeem en alles is dus zelf gemaakt. Tijdens de stage is er gewerkt met hardware van nordic semiconductors en wordt er gebruik gemaakt van Zephyr. Er is gewerkt aan de volgende dingen:

I came up with a design solution and a comprehensive advice report after extensive qualitative and quantitative research and getting in touch with the user as much as possible. The design solution aimed to streamline the communication style given to members during the membership cancellation journey, to ensure members are well-informed during every step of the process, as well as to incentivise conversion to Basic-Fit's self-service platforms.

Software DevSecOps as a service

Veel organisaties hebben moeite om hun softwareontwikkeling optimaal te beveiligen tegen de snel veranderende wereld van cyberdreigingen. Orange Cyberdefense, specialist in cybersecuritydiensten, ziet dat veel klanten vastlopen bij het integreren van security testing in bestaande DevOps-processen.

Projectdoel:
Dit afstudeerproject richt zich op het ontwerpen en realiseren van een DevSecOps-pipeline die als dienst (“as-a-service”) aangeboden kan worden. De pipeline automatiseert beveiligingstests en wordt continu bijgewerkt met de nieuwste cyberdreigingen, zodat kwetsbaarheden vroegtijdig worden opgespoord. Hierbij wordt gewerkt volgens het OWASP SAMM* model voor procesvolwassenheid en worden geavanceerde tools voor zowel statische als dynamische security testing geïntegreerd.

Het eindproduct is een herbruikbare en uitbreidbare DevSecOps-pipeline, waarmee organisaties:

- Automatisch de nieuwste dreigingen meenemen in hun testproces;

The NPO (Nederlandse Publieke Omroep) is an umbrella company for many national broadcasters in the Netherlands. On a weekly basis, 81% of the Dutch population use the services provided by the NPO, including Radio, TV and online services . Given the public nature of its content, the NPO is exposed to public opinion, which can be either positive or negative. In some cases, negative reactions may lead to cyberattacks, which the NPO actively seeks to prevent. The focus is on the rapid detection of potential threats, minimizing damage, restoring data, and preventing future incidents.

Cyber threats, particularly ransomware, pose a serious risk to the continuity of services and the NPO's reputation. While existing IT security measures are in place, targeted attacks require a well-coordinated response and dedicated procedures / measures. The current challenge lies in identifying weaknesses in the incident management process and making sure that the response is structured rather than reactive. Without a clear plan, the NPO risks inefficient mitigation, extended outages, and increased damage from cyber-attacks.

The primary goal of this internship project is to improve the NPO’s procedures and measures against cyber threats, focusing on Ransomware attacks. Through research, simulations and evaluation, the NPO seeks to improve these procedures and measures.

MAXECOM is een e-commerce berdijf dat opereerd onder de Speyzer group en verkopen zowel business-2-business (B2B) als business-to-consumer (B2C) op platformen als Amazon en Bol.com. Ze zijn voortdurend bezig met het analyseren van de markt en het uitbreiden van hun assortiment met producten waar volgens hen potentie in zit.

In het huidige proces kijkt de product sourcer per individueel product wat de potentie is van het product om te kijken of ze dit willen toevoegen aan het assortiment van MAXECOM. Collega’s zien een leuk product voorbij komen en vragen aan de product sourcing of ze willen overwegen om naar het product te kijken. Dit heeft als gevolg dat het proces inefficiënt en veel tijd kost, dat er geen inzichten zijn op trends, er ruimte is voor menselijke fouten en dat het huidige proces het niet zal toelaten om de groeidoelen op basis van assortiment groei te behalen.

Om het probleem te verbeteren, is er behoefte om het proces te automatiseren om ervoor te zorgen dat het proces sneller kan, minder foutgevoelig is, meer zekerheid biedt en rekening houdt met ambities om te groeien in de toekomst.

Om het probleem samen te vatten en naar een oplossing te werken, is er behoefte om meer met een data gedreven proces te kunnen werken om efficiënter de potentie te kunnen inschatten. Doordat MAXECOM een groot data infrastructuur heeft gebouwd op Databricks en dashboards heeft gebouwd met Power BI, zal de oplossing in Power Bi worden ontwikkeld.

The result is a life-sized statue of a Taíno god, an emotionally expressive digital shaman that interacts with visitors using speech and visuals , powered by real-time AI, trained on extensive literature and cultural research on the Taíno people. This hybrid embodiment combines a physical presence with a virtual brain to create a meaningful museum-like experience. More than just a technical feat, the AI takes on the persona of a Taíno behique (shaman) and aims to offer wisdom and deeper insight into lost cultures, reviving voices that were nearly forgotten. with the goal to be presented at Dutch Design Week 2025

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij ICT Group heb ik meegewerkt aan een Dynamic Loading Pipeline, die gebruikt wordt voor het optimaliseren, laden en beheren van complexe 3D modellen. Deze pipeline is van belang voor XR apparaten zoals de HoloLens 2, waarop de modellen uiteindelijk in realtime moeten worden getoond.
Het doel van dit project was het ontwikkelen van een prototype waarmee bepaald kan worden hoe groot een object group (een groep van 3D modellen) mag zijn zonder dat dit de prestaties of de gebruikerservaring nadelig beïnvloedt. Hierbij wordt er gekeken naar factoren zoals het aantal polygonen en de belasting op de hardware die de modellen veroorzaken.
De inzichten uit dit project dragen bij aan het maken van een schaalbare en performante XR applicatie, waarin complexe modellen kunnen worden laten zien zonder dat dit ten koste gaat van de prestaties of stabiliteit.

The AIR profile is used to specify how medical imaging analysis results performed by AI agents can be reliably stored, retrieved and displayed.
The IID Profile allows the user of a non-image-aware system to request the display of studies for a patient, and have the display performed by an image-aware system like a PACS.

Project PriMaa (Primair Maastricht) richt zich op de migratie van workloads van het datacenter in Landgraaf naar het datacenter in Maastricht, waarmee Open Line haar primaire dienstverlening structureel centraliseert. Deze migratie is noodzakelijk vanwege onzekerheden, op termijn, van het datacenter in Landgraaf. Het project beoogt zoveel mogelijk klantomgevingen te verplaatsen, met waarborging van continuïteit, stabiliteit en performance als uitgangspunt.

Het project kent twee complementaire sporen. Enerzijds betreft dit de technische inrichting van de nieuwe datacenterruimte in Maastricht, PS30. Dit omvat onder meer de voorbereidingen op het gebied van netwerkinfrastructuur, het plaatsen en configureren van racks, stroomvoorzieningen en patchpanelen. Daarnaast worden de benodigde monitoring- en beheervoorzieningen ingericht, met als doel een robuuste, schaalbare en toekomstbestendige basisomgeving te realiseren voor de ontvangende workloads van klanten.

Anderzijds omvat dit project de migratie van de dienstverlening zelf. Iedere klantomgeving wordt daarbij afzonderlijk geïnventariseerd en beoordeeld op migratiegeschiktheid, met expliciete aandacht voor afhankelijkheden zoals WAN-koppelingen, latencygevoelige toepassingen en andere klantspecifieke vereisten zoals vastgelegd in SLA’s. Op basis van deze analyse worden individuele migratieplannen opgesteld en in nauwe samenspraak met de klant uitgevoerd. De migraties volgen een gestructureerde, herhaalbare aanpak, met ruimte voor validatie, klantacceptatie en gerichte nazorg.

Binnen dit project geef ik als student blijk van zowel technische deskundigheid – zichtbaar in de inrichting van PS30 – als van organisatorisch inzicht, door de gestructureerde, projectmatige aansturing van de migratiefase. Zo lever ik een concrete bijdrage aan een strategisch traject dat Open Line positioneert voor de toekomst.

This graduation project explores the integration of biofeedback into Virtual Reality (VR) music therapy as an innovative approach to stress reduction. Developed within the context of MaMa Producties, a design studio specializing in immersive healthcare technologies, the project focuses on supporting stress management in female patients.

A key achievement was establishing a functional connection between a Samsung smartwatch and a Unity-based VR therapy environment. Real-time heart rate variability (HRV) data was collected and processed into a stress score using a custom-built algorithm. This score was then used to dynamically influence the VR music therapy experience.

Due to the technical complexity and time constraints involved in processing biofeedback and developing the scoring system, additional musical elements such as varying pitch, rhythm, or intensity were not included in this prototype.

Despite the reduced scope, the project successfully delivers a working proof of concept for a responsive VR therapy system. It provides a solid foundation for future development that could include adaptive musical features and clinical applications, offering an engaging and potentially effective tool for stress management.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Kelvion Refrigeration B.V. heb ik onderzocht hoe een op maat gemaakte Planning Software ontworpen en gerealiseerd kan worden binnen de bestaande IT-architectuur. Het doel van dit project was het opzetten van een schaalbaar, onderhoudbaar en uitbreidbaar systeem ter vervanging van het huidige planningsproces, dat momenteel grotendeels plaatsvindt met behulp van Excel-sheets.

Een aantal belangrijke technische en functionele uitdagingen vormden de kern van het onderzoek:
- Modulariteit: De software moet modulair opgebouwd zijn, zodat toekomstige uitbreidingen en integratie met bestaande in-house systemen eenvoudig te realiseren zijn.
- Multi-site ondersteuning: De oplossing moet geschikt zijn voor meerdere locaties, waarbij elke locatie met een eigen datastructuur werkt. Tegelijkertijd moet het mogelijk zijn om data tussen locaties te synchroniseren waar nodig, zonder dat dit ten koste gaat van performance of dataconsistentie.

In het kader van deze opdracht heb ik een prototype opgezet. Het doel hiervan is aan te tonen dat een modulaire, schaalbare en locatie-onafhankelijke oplossing technisch haalbaar is binnen de context van Kelvion. Daarnaast heb ik documentatie opgesteld waarin wordt beschreven hoe een dergelijk project concreet kan worden aangepakt.

Voor mijn afstudeerproject ontwerp ik een digitaal beoordelingsplatform voor onderwijsinstellingen die betrokken zijn bij aanbestedingstrajecten. In de huidige situatie ervaren beoordelaars het proces vaak als onduidelijk, omslachtig en weinig ondersteunend. Er is behoefte aan meer structuur, overzicht en gebruiksgemak.

Met mijn ontwerp richt ik me specifiek op het verbeteren van de gebruikerservaring en interface tijdens het beoordelen zelf. Het platform begeleidt beoordelaars stap voor stap door het proces en biedt overzicht en structuur op de momenten dat dit het meest nodig is. Door een intuïtieve interface, visuele duidelijkheid en consistente interactie wil ik beoordelaars helpen efficiënter, eerlijker en met meer vertrouwen te werken.

Het doel is om een gebruiksvriendelijke oplossing te ontwerpen en beoordelaars ondersteunt in hun taak zonder het proces zwaarder of complexer te maken.

In my full-stack software-engineering graduation project, I explore the creation of a modern Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) using a microservice architecture and API-first principles within the .NET ecosystem.

The proof-of-concept allows analysts to digitally handle complex, data-driven lab workflows - ranging from data entry and result calculation to approval, validation, and internal reporting - while emphasizing traceability, maintainability, and compliance (ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 27001).

Built on a modular .NET backend, a React-based frontend, and fully automated DevOps pipelines, LabX combines modern software best practices and techniques with lab-specific quality standards and user-centered domain-driven design to demonstrate how a flexible, future-proof platform can evolve alongside existing systems.

During my graduation internship at OpenRemote, I worked on decoupling the IoT data from the virtual machines to simplify OpenRemote's update process.

By decoupling the IoT data from the virtual machines, backups (snapshots) can be made more specifically by targeting only the IoT data from the platform. It enables fast snapshot recovery by replacing the (data) volume with a snapshot in less then a minute without downtime. And new instances can be created on the fly with existing IoT data by attaching the (data) volume to the instance.

The main goal of the project is to make it easier to update the virtual machines to a newer version of OpenRemote and rollback in case of unexpected system behavior, problems with the IoT platform and errors.

The implementation is entirely open-source and available through OpenRemote's GitHub repository at: https://github.com/openremote/openremote.

CY2 is a software engineering and consultancy company, which creates and maintains software solutions within the education sector. The company has expertise in creating and maintaining translation layers between otherwise incompatible software systems. They specialize in oracle products, of which PeopleSoft is the primary focus. Besides creating customer-specific solutions, CY2 is also developing products of their own.

At this moment, CY2 is developing an application named the Student Companion app, that acts as a central location for students to retrieve information related to their study progress. At universities that will employ this system, students will receive notifications on matters relevant to them, review their study progress, access their student card and ask questions to a chatbot.

CY2 wants to increase student interaction with the Student Companion app by automatically sending notifications to students for updates from across the educational institute. This will then be improved further by allowing students to perform follow-up actions on these notifications from within Microsoft Teams.

This project integrates InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) technology with a mobile electronic medical record (EMR) application to establish a resilient, decentralised health data management system for field medical personnel.

The current mobile health application stores medical data locally, with limited transfer options between devices that typically require direct connectivity—a critical limitation in remote areas with unstable or non-existent network infrastructure. By leveraging IPFS's peer-to-peer architecture and content-based addressing, this project enhances the availability, security, and retrieval efficiency of medical data in Disconnected, Intermittent, and Limited (DIL) network environments, providing a more resilient alternative to traditional data transfer methods.

Key technical components include a custom Kotlin-Go bridge architecture using Gomobile to connect the Android application with the IPFS implementation, a robust offline operations handler that queues changes for later synchronisation, and security measures ensuring data protection both at rest and in transit.

The solution enables medical professionals to create and access patient records offline, while automatically synchronising data when connectivity is available. Team leaders gain comprehensive visibility of patient status across multiple field providers, and medical facilities receive complete patient histories during handoffs, even in challenging network conditions.
The project aims to design a system that optimises record retrieval times while supporting multiple connected mobile nodes. The implementation will focus on maximising uptime for local operations, preserving data integrity through robust verification methods, and implementing mechanisms to prevent data loss during synchronisation interruptions. Performance and reliability testing will be key components of the research to determine the practical feasibility of the solution in real-world environments.

This project delivers a functional IPFS prototype that demonstrates the feasibility of decentralised storage for mobile health applications, complete with performance metrics under simulated DIL conditions, security compliance verification against Philips' standards and healthcare requirements, and a comprehensive feasibility assessment for production implementation. The resulting system significantly enhances medical information flow in remote locations, potentially improving patient treatment outcomes in even the most challenging operational environments.

Binnen de Brandweer Repressie-directie op afdeling Team Operationele Voorbereiding (TOV) is de vraag opgedoken om de primaire bluswatervoorzieningen binnen de Veiligheidsregio Utrecht (VRU) inzichtelijk te maken. Deze vraag komt voort uit het oprukken bij branden waarbij gegevens op de MOI-tablet niet altijd even duidelijk weergeven zijn. De huidige werkwijze binnen de Veiligheidsregio Utrecht (VRU) voor het verkrijgen van inzicht in bluswatervoorzieningen is inefficiënt en verspreid. De medewerkers van het TOV hebben beperkte toegang tot betrouwbare gegevens over waterbronnen voor brandbestrijding en gebouwkenmerken, waardoor besluitvorming vertraging oploopt. De afhankelijkheid van verouderde systemen, handmatige invoer van gegevens en het gebruik van complexe analysetools vertraagt het proces en belemmert een snelle(re) respons bij incidentbestrijding. Dit kan leiden tot suboptimale besluitvorming en vertragingen tijdens kritieke momenten, wat de effectiviteit van de brandbestrijding en advisering aan gemeenten in de regio schaadt.

Het OMO-Bureau ondersteunt meer dan 32 scholengemeenschappen en 72 scholen en beheert een gecentraliseerde IT-omgeving. Om de efficiëntie en servicekwaliteit te verbeteren, richt dit onderzoek zich op het evalueren, selecteren en implementeren van een geoptimaliseerd helpdesksysteem dat aansluit bij ITIL-standaarden en de behoeften van de organisatie.

De eerste fase van het onderzoek omvat een requirementsanalyse om de functionele en technische specificaties van een geschikt helpdesksysteem vast te stellen. Dit houdt in: het identificeren van knelpunten in de huidige processen, het bepalen van de belangrijkste bedrijfsbehoeften en het waarborgen van ITIL-conformiteit binnen incident- en/of changemanagement.

Daarna wordt een marktanalyse en systeemvergelijking uitgevoerd. Verschillende helpdesksystemen, zoals ServiceNow, Freshdesk, Jira Service Management of Halo worden geanalyseerd en vergeleken op basis van functionaliteit, gebruiksvriendelijkheid, integratiemogelijkheden en aansluiting op de behoeften van het OMO-Bureau. Het doel is om een onderbouwd advies te geven over het meest geschikte systeem.

In de laatste fase wordt een Proof of Concept (PoC) uitgevoerd om de geselecteerde oplossing in een praktijkomgeving te testen. Deze fase evalueert prestaties, gebruikerservaring en systeemefficiëntie, zodat het systeem voldoet aan de verwachtingen van de organisatie. Op basis van de resultaten wordt een implementatieplan opgesteld, inclusief training en kennisoverdracht voor ICT-medewerkers, zodat zij het systeem optimaal kunnen gebruiken.

Dit onderzoek biedt een gestructureerde en objectieve aanpak, waarbij de keuze niet beperkt blijft tot een vooraf bepaald systeem (zoals Halo). Hierdoor kan het OMO-Bureau een weloverwogen beslissing nemen die zorgt voor een toekomstbestendig, efficiënt en schaalbaar helpdesksysteem, met verbeterde serviceverlening en optimalisatie van werkprocessen.

Software Production Test Source Control Visual Studio Code Extension

At Prodrive Technologies, we design and manufacture high-tech electronics, including printed circuit boards and complete systems. A crucial aspect of this process is production testing, which ensures product quality before delivery. Test engineers are responsible for developing and maintaining these tests, often collaborating with source control, CI pipelines, and deployment processes, tasks that can be complex, especially for those without a software development background.

To make test development easier, we had an internal desktop tool called PTSC (Production Test Source Control). This project focused on transforming that tool into a modern, maintainable Visual Studio Code extension. The first major step was decoupling the UI from the business logic and moving the core functionality into a reusable C# library called Ptsc.Library. This allows both the legacy app and the extension to share the same logic without code duplication.

Since test development already happens in Visual Studio Code, having PTSC available as an extension streamlines the workflow significantly. The extension uses a WebView-based UI and communicates with a backend ASP.NET Core Web API, which interacts with Ptsc.Library. As a result, service engineers can now manage the full test lifecycle—coding, version control, releases, and deployment—directly in one tool, making their work faster, easier, and more consistent.
