In an era defined by rapid advances in AI and human-computer interaction, there remains substantial room for discovery and innovation in the context of Virtual Humans, one of which is an opportunity where AI, art, and philosophy intersect.

During my graduation internship at Lectoraat Interaction Design, which is a research group within Fontys, I developed a life-size, interactive Virtual Human (Flower entity), which will also be showcased for the upcoming Dutch Design Week 2025. By combining AI-driven tools and real-time animation, the installation provokes playful and unpredictable reactions while showcasing the technical possibilities of AI-driven realism and addressing the current state of our identity, especially with the rise of these digital entities. What does this mean for the future of our shared human experience? And what does this reveal about our concept of identity? The Virtual Human aims to reflect or spark discussion among visitors on the blurred boundaries of human identity in our hybrid physical-digital world.

Therefore, I will be researching the best ways to test the key functionalities of those modules within Drupal and how to optimize said tests - and then applying that research in the realisation of a proof-of-concept testing environment that will serve as the basis of their future testing endeavours.

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) operates as the national statistical office for the government of the Netherlands. Within the Publication, Coordination and Research team (PCO), a recent idea sparked an interest in employees.
Over the years, CBS's data collection and storage processes have become more complex, digital and professional. Due to the sheer size of data collection in recent years, efficiently acessing and utilizing data sources has increasingly become more of a challenge.
So what if there was one enterprise data navigation tool? One that could tell you all about the rich data backlog of the CBS? One that could answer your question by matching the right databases and tables to it and give you data?
An opportunity presented itself in the form of leveraging Large Language Models with a form of RAG and utilizing vector or graph databases.
However, implementing Large Language Models at CBS faces significant challenges, such as:
- Data governance compliance
- Only being able to utilize open-source LMs and technologies

For this project, I created a full-stack Proof of Concept, and delivered a thesis on how this technology can be utilized enterprise-wide within the CBS.

My graduation company is currently using a 3rd party application (Celigo Integrator.io) to manage relations between different datasources & applications.
It allows them to schedule jobs containing different ETL tasks, including reading and writing from/to databases, APIs, Salesforce instances and FTP servers, and applying different kinds of transformations, filters & conditional operations.
All of those actions can be chained together and run conditionally or on a schedule.

Integrator.io, while useful (and often powerful) suffers from different weaknesses:
- occasional issues with FTP implementation
- restrictions in scheduling system
- reliance on support team, which makes customization & hotfixes a pain-point for us
- hardly justifiable price (based on software licensing - not actual costs to run /high markup/)
- others...

My job this semester is to implement a new, in-house solution for VMN Media, which has (or will later-on allow to have) the majority of above mentioned features, while also solving many of the issues currently in place.

This project aims to enhance "Elly," a conversational chat-bot developed by Elephants in the Room to identify critical business bottlenecks, uncover root causes, and propose effective solutions. Elly utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to conduct in-depth interviews with employees, including those who are typically less vocal, to gather comprehensive insights.

The primary focus is to improve Elly's performance by refining its LLM prompts and developing specialized NLP algorithms. This involves:
- Categorizing Performance Issues: Identifying and analyzing existing performance problems and failure modes within Elly to understand areas needing improvement.
- Optimizing LLM Prompts and NLP Algorithms: Crafting effective prompt-engineering strategies and tailoring NLP algorithms to enhance Elly's ability to elicit high-quality user inputs and interpret them accurately.
- Updating Conversational Flow: Enhancing the state-machine logic and back-end conversational flow to make interactions more natural and engaging for users.
- Validating Improvements: Using user-validated benchmarks to test the new prompts and algorithms, ensuring they effectively address the identified issues.
- Deployment with Field Lab Customer: Merging and deploying the updated back-end prototype with a Field Lab customer to assess performance in a real-world environment.
- Iterative Refinement: Utilizing feedback and validated results to further refine the algorithms and benchmarks for optimal functionality.
- Documentation: Creating detailed documentation of the algorithms, Figma designs, and web app code to enable other developers to utilize and build upon the work independently.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Reuzenpanda heb ik een nieuw rechtenbeheersysteem ontworpen en ontwikkeld voor hun bestaande platform. Dit platform stelt bedrijven in staat om hun volledige marketingworkflow te beheren en te automatiseren – van het genereren van leads en het opvolgen van deals tot het verzenden van facturen.
Het doel van mijn opdracht was om een flexibel en veilig systeem te creëren waarmee klanten van Reuzenpanda nauwkeurig kunnen bepalen welke gebruikers toegang hebben tot welke onderdelen van het platform. Het door mij ontwikkelde rechtenbeheersysteem biedt hen de mogelijkheid om toegangsrechten op gebruikersniveau te beheren, waardoor zij meer controle krijgen over interne processen. Dit draagt bij aan een veiligere, overzichtelijkere en efficiëntere werkomgeving.
Om tot een goed onderbouwd ontwerp te komen, heb ik eerst onderzoek gedaan naar de benodigde rechten binnen het systeem, verschillende bestaande rechtenbeheermodellen en relevante beveiligingsrisico’s. Daarnaast heb ik bestaande tools geanalyseerd om te bepalen welke oplossingen al beschikbaar zijn en wat de sterke en zwakke punten daarvan zijn. Op basis van deze analyse heb ik de architectuur voor het nieuwe systeem ontworpen, met aandacht voor schaalbaarheid, onderhoudbaarheid en integratie met het bestaande platform.

One game – billions of people on this world. One game – billions of smiles every day. Not all of us are keen fans of it, but all of us have at least seen how its magic impacts many people around us – this is football.

Football is an important niche for Johan Sports where GPS & heart rate trackers are made that players wear during trainings and matches. The data from these trackers is sent to a Live app where the coach sees how each player is performing during a training or a match by recording the activity. There is also another app called RPE (rate of perceived exertion) which is used by the players. From there, they have to upload data how they feel before a training or a match and also after that.

Sometimes though the players don’t upload their data in the RPE app. Also, due to multiple possible circumstances, it could be that a player needs to train individually, away from the team. That is why to record his/her individual trainings, the player needs to use the Live app on his/her own. Its UX/UI though is not intended to match the user-flow of an individual athlete.

This is where my assignment comes in. During my graduation internship at Johan Sports, I designed a high-fidelity prototype of a training app which is a combined version of the current Live app and RPE app. It gives an individual touch to the players. It encourages the athletes to fill in the RPE data. The players can also use the new app to record their activities when they train on their own, away from the team. As a result, the players have everything together in a more intuitive and straightforward way.

In general practitioner care, more value is being attached to structured and uniform data registration. The use of episodes in General Practitioner Information Systems (HIS) plays an important role in this. Although Medicom supports episodes, functionality for working with NHG(Nederlands Huisartsen Genootschap) episode bundles is lacking. These bundles provide a standardized approach to better organize and use connected episodes, which can improve the efficiency and quality of care.

Episodes refer to the grouping of related medical consultations and treatments for a specific condition, instead of documenting each visit related to a specific clinical picture.
For example:
- If you visit your GP multiple times for high blood pressure, each visit would be grouped under an episode for hypertension.
- If you later develop another health related issue, like diabetes, a new episode would be created for the related treatment and consultation.

Episodebundels serve as a way to structure episodes under larger, overarching disease categories.
For example:
- Asthma and COPD fall under the same bundle as they are both chronic respiratory diseases.
- Different types of cardiovascular diseases, like hypertension and heart failure, can be in the same bundle to streamline long-term care.

For my assignment I have been researching possibilities to implement the functionality of NHG-episodebundels within Medicom in an efficient, organized and user-friendly manner. In addition the UX-design of the functionality should conform to the guidelines defined by Pharmapartners and be validated by general practitioners.

Software Modernisatie BraGIS OnRoute

Niels N. Feijen Title: Modernisatie BraGIS OnRoute Description:

Tijdens deze afstudeerstage heb ik gewerkt aan de modernisering van de OnRoute-app voor BraGIS, een bedrijf dat gespecialiseerd is in geografische informatiesystemen (GIS) en voornamelijk werkt met het ArcGIS-platform van Esri. De oorspronkelijke opdracht was gericht op het vernieuwen van een verouderde app door het toepassen van een moderne ontwikkelomgeving en hedendaagse UI/UX-standaarden.

Al in een vroeg stadium bleek echter dat er bredere kansen lagen dan enkel een technische update. In goed overleg is de focus verschoven naar het ontwikkelen van een app die niet alleen gebruiksvriendelijk is, maar ook diep geïntegreerd is met ArcGIS en de beschikbare datakoppelingen. Hierdoor sluit het project optimaal aan bij het bestaande software-ecosysteem van BraGIS.

De oorspronkelijke OnRoute-app maakte gebruik van een losstaand webplatform voor het aanmaken van routes. Dit platform was inefficiënt, verouderd en stond volledig los van het BraGIS-systeem. In de nieuwe aanpak is een geïntegreerde workflow ontworpen en gerealiseerd, gebaseerd op bestaande ArcGIS-koppelingen. Deze aangepaste flow vormt nu de kern van de vernieuwde applicatie en draagt bij aan een efficiëntere werkwijze en een beter onderhoudbare infrastructuur.

Het eindresultaat is een hybride Flutter-app waarmee gebruikers routes kunnen volgen die rechtstreeks worden opgehaald vanuit een ArcGIS-omgeving. De routes zijn zowel online als offline beschikbaar en bevatten beschrijvende en inhoudelijke informatie. De app is ontworpen met het oog op toekomstige uitbreidingen en het eenvoudig realiseren van klant-specifieke varianten. Door het gebruik van variabelen voor stijl en content kan de app eenvoudig worden aangepast aan verschillende huisstijlen en wensen, zonder dat de onderliggende code hoeft te worden gewijzigd.

Met deze aanpak levert het project een waardevolle bijdrage aan de vernieuwing van BraGIS OnRoute en de verdere integratie binnen de producten en diensten van BraGIS.

Two robotic arms working in harmony — planning, moving, and completing delicate tasks like picking up and placing an egg. This project demonstrates autonomous coordination using ROS 2 and MoveIt for intelligent motion planning, supported by precise and responsive communication.

The core contribution lies in building that communication layer: EtherCAT, a high-performance industrial protocol, is handled entirely in software. A custom STM32 microcontroller receives and processes raw Ethernet frames without any dedicated hardware, enabling sub-millisecond control cycles. This software-driven approach brings high-performance coordination to experimental robotics — ideal for research, prototyping, and education.

Hoe zorg je ervoor dat websitebezoekers sneller de juiste informatie vinden én worden geholpen richting een vervolgstap? Tijdens een afstudeerstage bij Innervate is een AI-gedreven chatbot ontwikkeld die fungeert als digitale sales-assistent op de nieuwe WordPress-website van het bedrijf.

De chatbot beantwoordt vragen, verwijst naar relevante artikelen en pagina’s, en helpt bij het plannen van afspraken. De kennisbank wordt dynamisch opgebouwd uit websitecontent en documenten op SharePoint, waardoor de informatie actueel en centraal beheerd blijft.

Naast de interactie met bezoekers biedt het systeem ook inzichten voor het team van Innervate. Gesprekken kunnen via de API worden geraadpleegd, zodat patronen in vragen en behoeften zichtbaar worden. Op basis hiervan kan gericht nieuwe content worden geschreven, waarmee de chatbot en de website elkaar voortdurend versterken in een cyclisch proces.

De technische basis bestaat uit .NET, Semantic Kernel en Azure OpenAI, met integratie via een maatwerkplugin in WordPress (Alpine.js). De architectuur is modulair en toekomstbestendig: het systeem ondersteunt uitbreiding met nieuwe AI-tools, alternatieve AI-modellen en aanvullende methodes voor contentverzameling. Zo kan de oplossing meegroeien met veranderende wensen en technologieën, zonder afhankelijk te zijn van een specifiek platform.

Het resultaat is een werkend prototype dat laat zien hoe AI gericht kan bijdragen aan klantinteractie, contentstrategie en digitale dienstverlening — met volop ruimte voor verfijning en schaalbare doorontwikkeling.

Enterprise organizations, like insurance agencies, often rely on systems like Documentum to manage large volumes of (client) data and documents. By default it is not possible for clients of these enterprises to access and manage their own data. It requires the involvement of internal staff—for example, a client must contact an insurance agent to view or update claim information.

This project aims to simplify this process by creating a self service portal that integrates directly with Documentum. This portal will allow clients to securely access and manage their own data without needing to contact an employee.

Reducing the need for employees to get involved allows them to focus on their other tasks—for example, reviewing the claims that clients make.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Synaxion heb ik onderzocht hoe het bedrijf hun gestandaardiseerde dashboards eenvoudiger kon afstemmen op de behoeften van individuele klanten binnen het klant segment onderwijs. Het project is gericht op het verbeteren van de manier waarop klanten specifieke gegevens aanleveren, met behulp van het Microsoft Power Platform.

Synaxion levert dashboards op basis van gegevens uit bronsystemen van klanten, die automatisch in een datawarehouse worden geladen. Toch is dit niet voldoende: voor het zogenaamde schooldashboard moet aanvullende, algemene informatie ook handmatig door de klant worden aangeleverd. Daarnaast hebben klanten de wens om bepaalde automatisch geïmporteerde gegevens aan te passen, zodat de visualisaties beter aansluiten bij hun eigen inzichten of voorkeur.

Het doel van mijn onderzoek was om dit indieningsproces te automatiseren en klantvriendelijker te maken. Door gebruik te maken van tools binnen het Microsoft Power Platform kunnen klanten zelfstandig en gestructureerd aanvullende gegevens invoeren. Deze gegevens worden vervolgens automatisch gekoppeld aan de datawarehouse-omgeving, waardoor het dashboard sneller kan worden afgestemd op de behoeften van de klant.

Cherry.tv's marketing team currently spends significant time manually collecting and analyzing advertising campaign data. This time-consuming process limits quick decision-making and becomes increasingly challenging as the company works with more advertising partners.

My graduation project designs and implements Cherry.tv's first automated data pipeline to solve this problem. Built on cloud technology, this solution automatically collects marketing data, transforms it into a standardized format, and makes it readily available for analysis and reporting.

The system significantly reduces manual work and enables daily data updates instead of weekly reporting. This automation allows the marketing team to focus on strategy rather than data collection.

Beyond addressing current reporting needs, this project represents Cherry.tv's first step toward becoming a data-driven organization. The infrastructure is designed to evolve with the company's needs, creating a foundation for future advanced analytics initiatives.

Software 3D Tile rendering SDK

Mijn stage ging over de ontwikkeling van een software development kit (SDK) bij Naext, een technologiebedrijf dat zich richt op het verbeteren van toegankelijkheid in openbare ruimtes met behulp van innovatieve AI- en mixed reality-oplossingen. Tijdens mijn stage werkte ik aan een SDK die het mogelijk maakt om 3D-tiles te renderen in Unity voor verschillende platformen, waaronder PC, web, VR, AR en mobiele applicaties.

De SDK is ontworpen om 3D-gescande data van gebouwen om te zetten in een geoptimaliseerd tile grid. Hiermee kunnen ontwikkelaars interactieve toepassingen bouwen die zowel visueel aantrekkelijk als toegankelijk zijn. De nadruk ligt op het efficiënt en stabiel renderen van de tiles, ook op apparaten met beperkte rekenkracht zoals VR-headsets en smartphones.

In de eerste fase heb ik de SDK getest met realistische 3D-data van Station Eindhoven. Deze data wordt later geïntegreerd in een applicatie voor ProRail, met als doel de toegankelijkheid van stations en het openbaar vervoer te verbeteren. Denk hierbij aan toepassingen zoals verbeterde routebeschrijvingen en navigatie voor zowel reizigers als personeel.

De SDK is inmiddels al succesvol toegepast in de Route-app van Amsterdam UMC, waarmee gebruikers eenvoudig hun weg kunnen vinden binnen het ziekenhuis. In de toekomst zal de SDK ook worden ingezet bij andere locaties, zoals Schiphol. Het uiteindelijke doel is om de SDK breed inzetbaar te maken en zo bij te dragen aan een inclusieve en gebruiksvriendelijke reiservaring voor iedereen.

By conducting interview and collaborating with various HRM process owners, I was able to pinpoint where the most significant challenges existed, and prioritize my approach accordingly. This process led to the development of a comprehensive Power BI dashboard, which I successfully integrated into a test environment in AFAS. As a result, the Power BI dashboards offer clear, actionable information, enabling process owners to manage their processes more efficiently and make well-informed decisions.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Edufort, een bedrijf dat zich specialiseert in cybersecurity bij IT afdelingen binnen de educatieve sector, heb ik een huisstijl en website design gerealiseerd. Dit houdt in dat ze, gepaard met een nieuwe huisstijl, uitgewerkte en professionele visuele identiteitsrichtlijnen hebben ontvangen. Deze nieuwe designkeuzes zijn direct doorgevoerd in een frisse, nieuwe website.

During my graduation internship at Atos/Eviden, I developed an interactive dashboard for one of our major clients — ASML.

This dashboard is part of a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) data transformation project. It visualizes the results of a complex data migration pipeline by converting raw transformation reports (Excel and SQLite exports) into clear, interactive views.

Engineers and managers at ASML use the tool to identify errors, track transformation quality over time, and drill down into specific items or sheets (e.g. T009, T161). The dashboard features dynamic KPI blocks, detailed record filtering, pie charts, and multi-level navigation — all built with JavaFX, Apache POI, and a custom in-memory data model.

The solution enhances the traceability and transparency of ASML's data migration process and contributes to higher data quality and more reliable transformation results.

This project combines backend logic, user interface design, and data analysis into a clean and maintainable Java application tailored to ASML’s needs.

The assignment is to develop a Google Sheets extension using Google Apps Script and the PlePer APIs(pleper API documenation is provided to me by the company) to automate the process of retrieving and validating Google Business Profiles (GBP). Users will provide a list of businesses with basic details such as name, address, and phone number. The extension will use the PlePer APIs to match this data with GBP records, assess the match accuracy, and populate additional fields like GBP name, phone, and address in the sheet.
A configuration sheet will allow users to input their PlePer API credentials and select between basic or detailed data retrieval, optimizing API credit usage. The tool will also enforce minimum input requirements (such as business name, address, and phone) to ensure accurate results.

This project will replace manual GBP searches with an automated solution, saving time and reducing errors. It will provide users with a seamless way to validate and enrich business data, essential for analysis and decision-making. Google Apps Script will be used for backend functionality, while PlePer API and Google Sheets will handle data retrieval and user interaction.

As part of my graduation internship at Cape, I’m working on improving how team members give and receive feedback in Template Designer, a tool used to create advertising templates. Right now, collaboration is often inefficient — feedback is spread across different tools, hard to track, and easy to miss.

To understand the problem, I explored how teams currently work with the tool and where things go wrong. I spoke with team members in different roles, reviewed internal feedback, and mapped out the full workflow. A recurring issue became clear: feedback is often delayed, disconnected from the design, or lost altogether. This slows down the process and leads to frustration for both designers and testers.

After comparing different problem areas, the feedback process stood out as the most important one to improve. It affects nearly every step of the workflow and was seen by both the internal and client-facing teams as a major pain point.

I’m now designing a solution that focuses on making feedback faster, clearer, and easier to manage — directly within the tool. This solution is being developed step-by-step, tested with users along the way, and will result in an interactive high-fidelity prototype that Cape can use as a starting point for further development.

Baja Bikes is a travel company specializing in selling guided bike tours worldwide. The company operates as a middleman, similar to TripAdvisor, connecting customers who book bike tours with local suppliers (partners) who conduct the tours. Baja Bikes has built a reputation for delivering reliable and enjoyable experiences to travelers, putting over 500.000 people per year on bike tours around the world!
In order for suppliers to manage their tours with Baja Bikes, they use the supplier portal. This is an online system where suppliers access important information such as bookings, schedules, payments and report incidents. However, the current version of this portal is outdated and does not follow good code practices. This makes it difficult to extend the supplier portal with new features, since the development time is quite high.
The goal of this project is to completely rebuild the supplier portal from scratch, creating a modern, easy-to-use system that streamlines the way partners interact with Baja Bikes. By doing so, we aim to improve the experience for our partners, help the company operate more smoothly, and ultimately ensure that customers continue to enjoy the high-quality bike tours Baja Bikes is known for.

Ze maken gebruik van een zelfontwikkeld no-code platform om maatwerksoftware sneller en efficiënter te kunnen ontwikkelen.

De concrete aanleiding voor deze afstudeeropdracht ligt bij de behoefte van diverse klanten om data te verzamelen via (klant)feedback of interne enquêtes. Stofloos kan zich hierbij onderscheiden in de markt door geavanceerde AI-functionaliteiten binnen hun no-code platform aan te bieden.

Een van de klanten waarvoor eerder een survey is opgesteld, gaf aan behoefte te hebben aan een “slimme” variant hiervan. Deze moet de mogelijkheid hebben om middels AI doelgericht data te verzamelen en vervolgvragen te genereren op basis van de ingevoerde antwoorden.

De afstudeeropdracht is om een dynamische questionnairemodule te ontwikkelen binnen het no-code platform van Stofloos. Deze module moet door middel van een LLM (Large Language Model) in staat zijn om op basis van vooraf gedefinieerde doelstellingen zelf relevante vragen te bedenken en, indien nodig, door te vragen om zo tot een vragenlijst te komen.

For my graduation project, I interned at Antonio Media B.V., a UX/UI design agency in Eindhoven. I redesigned the personal website of the agency’s founder, John Sandiford. Beyond being a designer and entrepreneur, John is a community builder with a broader mission. He has launched several impactful initiatives, including RebuildSXM (a nonprofit supporting disaster recovery in Sint Maarten), The SunSide Kingdom Show (a podcast celebrating Dutch Caribbean role models), 6-INGS (a financial workshop), and trained over 100 entrepreneurs through an EU-funded COSME program.

Despite the value of these ventures, John’s personal platform lacked clarity and unity. It didn’t communicate his story or meaningfully connect his projects, making it hard for visitors to understand who he is and what he does. My goal was to design a web platform that brings together his identity, values, and initiatives in a seamless, inspiring way. I restructured the information architecture, designed interactive prototypes in Figma, and developed a fresh visual identity.

With a new look for the main pages and dedicated sections for each venture, most of which previously had no online presence, the final product tells a cohesive story, builds trust, and connects users to John’s world.

Applied Micro Electronics “AME” BV is a high-tech company, active in the field of development and production of software, electronic and mechatronic systems. Nowadays, a big part of AME’s portfolio consists of motor drives and power conversion projects.

Power conversion and motor control algorithms often contain tasks which must meet specific real time requirements. Given that the processing time on a controller is limited, it is usually required to split the algorithm into tasks with different priorities, so that the most important ones can always complete their calculations on time. Often, however, these tasks, which execute with different priorities, need to exchange data between them. This means that special care has to be taken in order to guarantee correct data transfer while avoiding data inconsistencies.

The current system holds the ability to assign “priorities” to certain tasks (i.e. letting certain tasks run faster than other tasks) within one primary task context; that is however, where this functionality ends.
AME's wish is for a system that can handle task execution in separate task contexts and the controlled transfer of data between these separated contexts.

The separation of the task contexts allows finer control of the tasks and the ability for them to execute their logic completely separately from one another. This allows tasks with higher priorities to effectively "pause" tasks that have lower priorities (task pre-emption) than themselves, so that they can perform their critical operations in a timely manner. Because of this behavior, the execution speed of lower priority tasks can be reduced when real time requirements are less critical. Because lower priority tasks can now pause and resume later, they can still provide the same results but slightly slower or less accurate. This can reduce the cost of controllers because of a reduction in required clock speeds.

Ik heb gewerkt aan het optimaliseren van de Pressure Cooker-dienst van Indicia.

De Pressure Cooker is een waardevol traject waarmee klanten in korte tijd tot nieuwe inzichten en oplossingen komen. Toch zijn er uitdagingen in de manier waarop deze dienst wordt gecommuniceerd en opgevolgd. Denk aan een gebrek aan zichtbaarheid, weinig digitale ondersteuning en een onsamenhangende klantbegeleiding voor, tijdens en na het traject. Dit kan ertoe leiden dat klanten afhaken of de behaalde resultaten niet volledig benutten.

Mijn opdracht was om te onderzoeken hoe UX-design kan bijdragen aan het verbeteren van de communicatie en klantbeleving rondom de Pressure Cooker. Het resultaat is een digitale oplossing die de dienst beter zichtbaar maakt én zorgt voor een gestructureerde begeleiding van klanten gedurende het hele proces.

This project is about investigating whether Artificial Intelligence can be successfully integrated into SAP's sales process to make software recommendations smarter and faster. Currently, when companies want to implement SAP's S/4HANA cloud solutions, determining which features they need is largely manual and depends heavily on individual consultant expertise.

The research explores the feasibility of AI integration in two key areas: Quick Redirect decision and Item Scoping recommendations. For Quick Redirect, we examine whether AI can help sales teams quickly determine if the company should use S/4HANA Cloud Private edition rather than the initial recommendation of S/4HANA Cloud Public edition. For Item Scoping, we investigate if AI can intelligently recommend relevant business features from hundreds of available options based on customer industry and requirements.

The study develops prototypes that learn from past implementations to suggest what has worked well for similar companies. Through testing and validation, we assess whether this AI-driven approach can make the sales process faster and more accurate while supporting human consultants. The goal is to determine if such technology could lead to better customer satisfaction and more successful software implementations, or if traditional methods remain more effective.

During my graduation internship at Nobleo Technology, I developed a CAN-bus diagnostics service based on an earlier proof of concept. The goal of this project is to reduce costly machine downtime caused by CAN-bus faults by enabling faster diagnosis and early intervention.

The service continuously monitors all nodes on the CAN-bus, collecting error reports and statistical data. This data is stored in a database for later analysis, enabling engineers to detect issues, identify patterns, and improve system reliability over time. To support a broad range of embedded systems, the diagnostics service is being developed for both Linux and Zephyr platforms.

To ensure robustness, I implemented a software-based CAN controller capable of injecting faulty or malformed messages. This test setup allows validation of the service’s ability to detect and respond to a wide range of failure scenarios.

The project involved exploring the feasibility of running parts of the ERP system in containerized environments. Based on this, I developed a proof of concept using Docker to support isolated and reproducible testing as part of the CI/CD workflow. The solution enables automated environment setup and cleanup, flexible dataset use, and includes documentation for integration and further development. This approach lays the groundwork for more scalable and efficient software testing and deployment practices within the organization.

Voor mijn afstudeerproject heb ik gewerkt aan het herontwerp van een interne enterprise-applicatie waarmee technische middelen beheerd en geregistreerd worden. De focus lag op het neerzetten van een schaalbare en onderhoudbare basis waarmee toekomstige ontwikkeling eenvoudiger wordt.

De nieuwe applicatie is ontworpen met moderne softwareprincipes en bestaat uit een modulair opgebouwde back-end in .NET. Hierbij is gekozen voor een heldere architectuur met gescheiden lagen voor domeinlogica, infrastructuur en API.

Het resultaat is een werkende basisapplicatie die eenvoudig uit te breiden is en beter aansluit op de wensen van eindgebruikers en beheerders.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Welten heb ik onderzocht hoe het bedrijf beter gebruik kan maken van klant- en personeelsdata om strategisch te sturen. Welten gebruikt meerdere systemen, zoals AFAS voor financiële administratie en Byner voor het beheer van klantaanvragen en plaatsingen. Omdat deze systemen los van elkaar werken, ontbreekt een overzicht waarin duidelijk wordt hoe klanten presteren, wat zij financieel bijdragen, en hoe personeel wordt ingezet. Hierdoor is het lastig om goed te sturen op klantwaarde, marges en tarieven.

Het doel van mijn opdracht was om een dashboard te ontwerpen dat deze informatie samenbrengt in één helder overzicht, bedoeld voor intern gebruik én voor evaluaties met klanten. Welten gebruikt het dashboard om zelf inzicht te krijgen in bijvoorbeeld gerealiseerde uurtarieven en omzetbijdrage per klant. Tegelijkertijd dient het dashboard als gespreksinstrument tijdens kwartaalevaluaties, waarbij klanten inzicht krijgen in plaatsingen en de voortgang van opdrachten.

Daarnaast is er gekeken naar het huidige ETL-proces, waarmee data uit AFAS automatisch in Power BI wordt geladen. Op basis van analyse en vergelijking is onderzocht hoe dit proces kan worden uitgebreid, verbeterd en schaalbaarder ingericht. Er is een pilot ETL-proces gemaakt en getest, waarmee data uit meerdere bronnen automatisch wordt verzameld, opgeschoond en klaargezet voor rapportage. Dit is uitgewerkt in een prototype dat inzicht geeft in de werking, kosten en herbruikbaarheid van het proces.

During my graduation internship at AmeXio Group, a software company focused on digital transformation, particularly in developing Content Management Systems (CMS) and Communication or Customer Management applications, I was assigned to research and create Proofs of Concept (PoCs) to explore whether composable tech stacks (modular architecture) could replace their current Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)-based CMS, used for one of AmeXio’s clients: the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB).
AmeXio builds many of its CMS web platforms for clients using AEM, enabling users without technical expertise to easily customize and update their websites.
The PoC involves developing and implementing a modular CMS solution that can manage and update content for local library websites (e.g., Bibliotheek Eindhoven, Bibliotheek Utrecht). The application will feature a flexible CMS interface that allows administrators and library editors to manage content, customize layouts, and enforce role-based access control (RBAC). Editors will be able to design and personalize their own web pages using predefined templates.
The objective of my project was to evaluate whether a modular, composable architecture could provide greater flexibility, customization, and adaptability than AEM, while still delivering the same core functionalities, both for this project and for future AmeXio initiatives.

Lyfter bouwt al sinds 2016 websites. Die websites worden opgemaakt met blokken. Lyfter ziet er meerwaarde in om hier een overzicht in te krijgen, zodat ze deze makkelijk kunnen hergebruiken. Dit bleek echter lastiger dan een blokkenencyclopedie maken: iedereen wil iets anders. Developers zoeken code en documentatie, designers willen visuele inspiratie, en sales wil snel iets laten zien aan de klant. Eén oplossing moest dus meerdere gebruiksdoelen verbeteren.

Hoe kan een data-engineeringproject Business Controllers van het Amphia Ziekenhuis duurzaam ondersteunen in overleggen met stakeholders over de inzet van dure medicatie?

Dat is de vraag waar ik mij tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij het Amphia Ziekenhuis over heb gebogen. In het ziekenhuis wordt jaarlijks voor tientallen miljoenen euro’s aan dure medicatie voorgeschreven. Dit vraagt om zorgvuldige besluitvorming, transparantie en onderbouwing richting verschillende belanghebbenden: van artsen en zorgmanagers tot zorgverzekeraars.

Om dit proces te ondersteunen heb ik gewerkt aan de opzet van een datagedreven werkwijze: van het automatisch verzamelen, verwerken en structureren van relevante data tot het ontwikkelen van rapportages en het verkennen van AI-modellen die mogelijke kostenontwikkelingen kunnen voorspellen.

Het resultaat is een eerste werkende keten die laat zien hoe data over dure medicatie vertaald kan worden naar waardevolle inzichten — op een schaalbare, onderhoudbare en toekomstbestendige manier.

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage bij Hertek Care heb ik een dashboard ontwikkeld voor teamleiders en gedragswetenschappers in de gehandicaptenzorg. Met dit dashboard kunnen zij hun dagelijkse processen efficiënter uitvoeren, waardoor er meer tijd overblijft voor het leveren van zorg aan cliënten.

Momenteel kampt de zorgsector met een personeelstekort van ongeveer 50.000 medewerkers en naar verwachting zal dit in 2032 oplopen tot 150.000. Dit tekort leidt tot een aanzienlijk verhoogde werkdruk. Hertek biedt met Sonevo een technologische oplossing die bestaat uit hardware (zorgdomotica zoals sensoren en slimme camera’s), software (een app waarmee zorgmedewerkers meldingen kunnen afhandelen) en nazorg (zoals onderhoud en data-inzichten). Hoewel deze technologie de werkdruk in theorie kan verlichten, blijkt in de praktijk dat slecht afgestemde systemen juist kunnen leiden tot extra belasting. Zorgmedewerkers besteden onnodig veel tijd aan het afhandelen van irrelevante of valse meldingen. Daarnaast zijn er andere dagelijkse processen (zoals administratieve taken en capaciteitsplanning) die ook gebaat zijn bij data gedreven ondersteuning. Door deze processen slimmer in te richten met behulp van data, kan de werkdruk structureel worden verminderd.

Mijn onderzoek richtte zich op het effectiever benutten van data uit de Sonevo-app om meldingen beter af te stemmen op het leefpatroon van cliënten. Door gedrags- en leefpatronen te analyseren, kunnen meldingen nauwkeuriger worden gegenereerd en neemt het aantal valse alarmen af. Dit zorgt niet alleen voor een rustiger werkproces en meer tijd voor persoonlijke zorg, maar biedt gedragswetenschappers ook waardevolle inzichten in het gedrag van cliënten. Het ontwikkelde dashboard helpt zorgprofessionals bij het interpreteren van deze data en het optimaliseren van de instellingen van zorgdomotica. Daarnaast biedt het ondersteuning bij bredere processen, zoals het verminderen van administratieve lasten en het verbeteren van capaciteitsbeheer.

In Eindhoven ontbreekt het momenteel aan een centraal, inzichtelijk platform voor woningbouwprojecten. Dit project realiseert een interactieve webapplicatie die verspreide woningbouwdata bundelt, visualiseert en analyseerbaar maakt voor burgers, beleidsmakers en woningcorporaties. Via kaarten, simulaties en datarapportages kunnen gebruikers actuele projecten volgen en beleid onderbouwen met feiten. Het platform maakt gebruik van moderne technologieën zoals microservices, Kubernetes en Angular om schaalbaarheid en flexibiliteit te waarborgen. De toepassing ondersteunt open data, burgerparticipatie en data-gedreven besluitvorming, en is een stap richting een transparanter en slimmer stedelijk beleid.

Feedback mechanisms help users understand the system’s responses, correct errors, and complete tasks efficiently. When these are poorly designed or absent, users—both new and experienced—can become confused or frustrated, limiting their ability to fully use the platform.
In the Sorama Portal, feedback includes elements like error messages, tooltips, confirmations, and real-time validation. These cues are essential for guiding users through complex processes such as sound measurement and analysis. By analyzing and enhancing these feedback elements, the project seeks to create a more intuitive, consistent, and user-friendly experience.

For my graduation project at MindLabs, I created Sophie: a virtual planning coach that helps MBO students improve their planning skills. My research focuses on how to make Sophie sound more human-like. This includes designing her tone, pitch, intonation, language level, and personality (persona).

A big part of my project was also about how Sophie fits within the tone and values of Yonder, my stakeholder. Since virtual planning coach is a new concept, I explored questions like: What should the user journey look like? When do students meet Sophie? How long are these conversations? And what should they be about?

Sophie’s goal is not to make a planning for the student, but to support them in learning how to plan themselves.

This project was developed with input from real MBO students and study coaches from Yonder. I used conversation design, UX methods, and system prompt to create a working prototype.

In this project, I analyzed and mapped out a highly complex onboarding process at Ratho B.V. which installs new customers into an existing software product. I then designed and created a two-sided wizard which is filled in both by Ratho's employees and customers, which also automatically configures settings for multiple third-party platforms and was designed with ease-of-use and no prior IT knowledge necessary to complete.

Organisational Processes WebReports en LiveReports in OpenText Content Management

Tijdens mijn afstudeerstage heb ik onderzoek gedaan naar de functionaliteit en toegevoegde waarde van WebReports en LiveReports binnen OpenText Content Management. Dit systeem, een documentbeheeroplossing voor klanten op enterprise-niveau, wordt door AmeXio geïmplementeerd bij haar klanten.

Tot op heden zijn deze onderdelen binnen OpenText nauwelijks benut door AmeXio, voornamelijk door een gebrek aan kennis over de mogelijkheden ervan. Het doel van dit onderzoek was dan ook om in kaart te brengen wat WebReports en LiveReports kunnen betekenen voor AmeXio en haar klanten, en hoe deze functionaliteiten effectief ingezet kunnen worden.

Het onderzoek richtte zich op de technische mogelijkheden van beide tools en op de praktische meerwaarde voor de dagelijkse werkzaamheden van gebruikers. Op basis van use cases afkomstig van een bestaande klant is onderzocht in hoeverre deze scenario’s realiseerbaar zijn en of ze als richtlijn kunnen dienen voor vergelijkbare situaties in de toekomst.

Uit het onderzoek is gebleken dat WebReports met name geschikt zijn voor het automatiseren van terugkerende rapportages, meldingen en gerelateerde acties. LiveReports daarentegen zijn vooral waardevol voor het uitvoeren van specifiekere queries op databaseniveau, bijvoorbeeld voor het opvragen van maatwerkrapportages of het analyseren van gerichte informatie.

Het adviesdocument en de uitgewerkte use cases vormen samen met het onderzoek een onderbouwde basis waarmee AmeXio het gebruik van WebReports en LiveReports verder kan verkennen en toepassen.

At GAC Business Solutions, software development currently takes place in a shared Azure DevOps environment. This setup, which is also used by the operations team, limits development flexibility and efficiency. Updates to pipelines or extensions require coordination across departments, slowing down the process. In light of these challenges, GAC is evaluating whether GitHub is a viable and more modern alternative.

This graduation project explores the technical, organizational, and financial aspects of migrating from Azure DevOps to GitHub. The research aims to determine whether GitHub can offer more autonomy, modern tooling (including AI), better integration with Microsoft tools, and long-term cost benefits. A detailed migration plan has been developed, covering risk management, stakeholder concerns, and system compatibility.

To test feasibility, I developed a custom script in C# that automates the migration process. This Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrates how work items, pipelines, repositories, and associated data can be transferred from Azure DevOps to GitHub. The process includes logging, validation, and fallbacks to ensure data integrity and maintainability.

This project will help GAC decide if GitHub is a viable option to migrate to, it also contributes a strategic migration plan and a working prototype that demonstrates technical feasibility

Software Vervanging BOR-BGT berichtenverkeer

Binnen Sweco vindt gegevensuitwisseling plaats tussen twee systemen die beide informatie beheren over de openbare ruimte: Obsurv (voor BOR: Beheer Openbare Ruimte) en dg DIALOG BGT (voor BGT: Basisregistratie Grootschalige Topografie). Hoewel beide systemen werken met objecten uit de fysieke leefomgeving, hebben ze elk een eigen perspectief en datastructuur. BOR richt zich op het beheer, gebruik en onderhoud van objecten (zoals bomen, wegen of verlichting), terwijl BGT primair gericht is op de geometrische vastlegging en standaardisatie van deze objecten op kaartniveau.

De overlap zit in het feit dat beide systemen veel dezelfde fysieke objecten registreren, zoals wegdelen, lantaarnpalen of groenvoorzieningen. Toch verschillen de informatiemodellen: BOR bevat vaak uitgebreidere beheerdata zoals onderhoudsfrequentie of materiaaltoestand, terwijl BGT een formele, gestandaardiseerde set kenmerken hanteert die wettelijk is vastgelegd. Dit betekent dat een object als “boom” in BOR mogelijk meer kenmerken bevat dan in BGT, of juist andere veldnamen en structuren gebruikt. Ondanks deze verschillen is het essentieel dat een object dat in BOR wordt bijgehouden – bijvoorbeeld een nieuw geplaatst speeltoestel – ook zichtbaar en correct vertaald wordt naar de BGT-omgeving.

De opdracht bestaat uit het ontwikkelen van een Proof of Concept voor een nieuwe connector die deze vertaalslag op een robuuste, efficiënte en toekomstbestendige manier mogelijk maakt. De nieuwe koppeling moet bidirectionele communicatie ondersteunen, flexibel zijn in mapping tussen kenmerken, minder foutgevoelig werken en beheerlasten verlagen. Zo wordt gestreefd naar een stabielere en slimmer geïntegreerde gegevensuitwisseling tussen BOR en BGT, ondanks de onderliggende modelverschillen.

Software Migratie van Azure IoT Edge naar Azure IoT Operations

Binnen mijn afstudeerstage bij ALTEN heb ik onderzocht hoe bestaande Azure IoT Edge-projecten gemigreerd kunnen worden naar het nieuwere Azure IoT Operations. Microsoft lijkt zich langzaam te richten op IoT Operations als opvolger van IoT Edge, en ALTEN wil voorbereid zijn op deze mogelijke overgang. Mijn opdracht richtte zich op het vergelijken van beide technologieën, het in kaart brengen van de verschillen, en het ontwikkelen van een concreet migratieproces dat ALTEN in de toekomst kan toepassen.

Een belangrijk onderdeel van het project was het ontwikkelen van alternatieven voor essentiële IoT Edge-functionaliteiten, zoals Direct Methods en Module Twins, die niet standaard beschikbaar zijn in IoT Operations. Hiervoor heb ik een aantal componenten ontworpen en geïmplementeerd, evenals een .NET SDK die het voor bestaande modules mogelijk maakt om zonder grote codewijzigingen te functioneren binnen IoT Operations.

Naast deze technische realisaties heb ik een prototype opgezet waarin meerdere modules samenwerken binnen een IoT Operations-cluster, ondersteund door Kubernetes en MQTT. Ook is het migratieproces gevalideerd door daadwerkelijk een module te migreren en te testen in de nieuwe omgeving.

Met dit project lever ik een bijdrage aan ALTEN’s kennisopbouw rond Azure IoT Operations, en bied ik een eerste stap richting een robuust en schaalbaar migratiekader voor toekomstige klantprojecten.

Tijdens mijn stage bij Isah B.V. ben ik bezig geweest met het ontwikkelen van een oplossing voor het verzamelen en publiceren van licentiedetails van de open source software componenten die gebruikt worden door het bedrijf. Dit proces verliep voorheen compleet handmatig en was erg tijdrovend. De SBOM Manager biedt Isah nu de mogelijkheid om automatisch deze gegevens te verzamelen en houdt een actuele Open Source Software Notice bij.
